BPA Free – Not Just for Baby Bottles

Life today is full of warnings, labels, codes of conduct and cautionary tales on how to raise your family in the best way possible. But who is really sure, if these so called ‘rules’ are based on facts or fiction. So many us will ere on the side of caution when it comes to our family, and every one of us can recall one of the following phases uttered to us by a friend or loved one.

“Don’t eat dinner after 8:00 pm or you will get heart burn.”
“Don’t make that face, or it will stick like that.”
“Eating spicy food helps you lose weight.”

Who is to say if any of the previous is really true, or if it was just something our moms told us so they could get a few laughs on the side. On the other side of the coin, there are true pertinent concerns that come up in life today. Organics? GMOs? Vaccinations? Chemicals and poisons have been sneaking their way into our daily life for years, and we didn’t even know it. One of the saddest fact is how blind we are to the harmful substances around us.

But it’s not all bad, we have come leaps and bound in the amount of resources available to us today. Most every grocery store has some type of organic section and natural healthcare is more accepted every day. One of the one wide spread and successful things to have happened is the public’s awareness to BPA, Bisphenol A, and how harmful it can be to the body.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical produced in large quantities for use primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. These chemicals leach out of their polycarbonates and contaminate the products they are designed to hold. This is why you will be hard pressed to find a baby bottle containing BPA today. BPA is also being removed from high quality water bottles and food packaging. People are very cautious of the chemicals that may leach into their food, but what about the chemicals that may leach into their body?

BPA related polycarbonates can also be found in cosmetic packaging, safety equipment, and medical devices. Let’s be honest with ourselves, plastics are a necessary part of life today, but when possible go BPA Free. It the products for in your body, on your mouth, or on your skins (which is the largest organ in the human body) go BPA Free.
